He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Quad City Bass Club. He always enjoyed the special times fishing and hunting with his boys. Survivors include a son, Tony Martin and wife Shelly of Davenport; three sisters, Collette Conroy of Grand Mound, Dolores "Sissy" Carleton of Davenport and Esther "Essie" Flemang and husband Marvin of Grand Mound; and two brothers, Bill Martin of Calamus and Don Martin of Holiday, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Troy B.

Phyllis C. Sedam, 89, New Boston, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo, Ill. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established.

He was a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon Institute in Pennsylvania, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.

He was a recipient of the Marston Hall Award for contributions to engineering education from Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 3rd Battalion, 322nd Infantry, 81st Wildcat Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Kerr and wife Kay of Muscatine; a daughter, Karen Ytzen and husband Charles of Schaumberg, three grandsons, Christopher and Patrick Ytzen and Gabriel Kerr; a granddaughter, Erika Ytzen; and a sister, Isabelle Bollinger of Burton, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
