thy a AfTer 4A Muscatine Journal Monday, Dec. 4, 1989 Obituaries Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Care Center, Mrs. Bowling was born' April 1, 1900 in Cherokee, a daughter of Ellsworth -and Edna, Jane' Dunsworth Holley. On Dee. 24, 1921 she was married to Roy Bowling in Davis County, Iowa.

He died in 1950. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She was homemaker and had retired as a rural -schoolteacher. Survivors include a stepson, Donald Bowling, of Ottumwa; a daughter, Mrs. Vern (Elexene) Lang of Muscatine; five.

grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five grandchildren; and one great great -grandchild. Also preceding her in death are two daughters and one son. Leota Halligan LONE TREE Leota May Halligan, 75, of Lone Tree, died Saturday at the Lone Tree Health Care Center following an extended illness. Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lone Tree Presbyterian Church with the Rev.

Albert Best officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation is after 1 o'clock today at the Sorden Funeral Home. There will be a service conduted by the Rebekah Lodge at 7. A memorial has been established.

Mrs. Halligan was born March 16, 1914 at Lone Tree, a daughter of Thomas and Goldie Hardy Halligan. She was a member of the WRC, the Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grand. She had worked at the University of Iowa in medical research for 16 years and at Younker's for five years. Survivors include two nephews, 'Ed Halligan of Muscatine; and John Halligan of Greeley, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Myers Kenneth L. Myers died at the Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Pasco, following an extended illness. Burial will be at Leon, Iowa on Tuesday. Survivors include a son, Lester and a daughter, Ginger; a brother, Robert of Florida; and three sisters, Doris Britton and Helen Peters, both of Muscatine; and Bonnie of Joplin and nieces, nephews and cousins. Douglas Myers Myers, 70, of 143 Briarwood, died -Thursday, Nov.

30, at the Brooking Park Geriatric Center. He was born Sept. 9, -1919 in Muscatine, a son of. Cecil R. and Stella M.

Kemmer Myers. On May 30, 1952, he married Lola Crampton. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Macon, and was a graduate of Palmer College in Davenport in 1952. He had worked as a chiropractor for 21 years and after retiring worked for several years as an excursion boat captain at TanTar-a Resort at the Lake of the Ozarks and on the Mississippi River. He served in the U.S.

Coast Guard during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lola; a daughter, Juanita Ramlow, of Columbia; his mother of Sedalia and a grandson. SEDALIA, Mo. Douglas T. 1989 Services were at 1:30 p.m.

Hazel Geertz Simpson Geertz Simpson, 89, formerly of 410 Parkington Drive, died Saturday at the Americana Health Care Center in Davenport. Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the. Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home.

The Rev. Eugene Augustine will officiate. Pallbearers will be Virgil Jarrett, Carl Geertz, Edward Schmidt Lauren Jarrett, Robert Geertz and Ted Richardson. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is today from 2 to 8 p.m.

The former Hazel McIntire was born July 17, 1900 in Muscatine County, a daughter of Elmer: and Anna Hendricks McIntire. She first married Raymond Geertz in 1922. He died in 1931.

In 1933 she was married to Louis Geertz who died in 1953. Later she was married to Leslie Simpson in 1959. He died in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.

Ron (Shirley) Schafnit, of Bettendorf; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Lela Jarrett of West Liberty. In addition to her husbands, a son also precedes her in death. Mildred Zeug Mildred Zeug, 75, 718 Woodlawn died Sunday at Muscatine General Hospital, following an extended illness. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph J.

Wittich Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Williamson officiating. Pallbearers will be Jon and Robert Nietzel, Art Libenguth, Mark Thomas, Douglas Watters and Jeff Sivedge. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m..

23, 1930, she was married' to Ray Zeug in Muscatine. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Ray; one daughter, Patricia Hahn, of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents, two brothers, three sisters, and one granddaughter. The lit candle left on top of a television burned down and began smoldering, Fire Chief Jim Pumfrey said. No one was at the upstairs apartment at E.

Eighth St. at the time of blaze, which was noticed about 3:20 p.m. by a neighbor, reports said. The resident, Lana Hahn, had left about 10 a.m., Pumfrey said. However, a cat in the residence was revived by firefighters, he added.

The apartment received extensive smoke damage, Pumfrey said. The Muscatine-Louisa Red Cross said it was ready to provide assistance as soon as officials could reach the resident, said administrative assistant Martha Schroeder. An apartment downstairs suffered little damage. Total damage was estimated at about $10,000, a report said. Mike Phelps, 810 Robin Road, is the owner of the building.

He worked as a forklift operator at HON Industries for 21 years before retiring Oct. 1. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; one son, Jerry, of Muscatine; daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Nonie) Penderson of. Muscatine; four grandchildren; his mother, Wilma Zellmer Stanbro, of Muscatine; a brother, Ralph, and a half-brother, David Stanbro, both of Muscatine; a sister, Mrs.

John (Darlene) Shepherd of Des Moines; and a half-sister, Joyce Small, of Muscatine. His father, stepfather and grandparents precede him in death. Irene Lowe Irene Marie Lowe, 89, at resident of Bethesda Care Center, died there Saturday evening. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Geo.

She is preceded in death by her husband in 1957 and her parents.
