August Kleindoph. 24W3t Lumbermen Indignant. A meeting of the Lumbermen's Board of Trade, for the three cities and Mus catine, was held in Davenport Wednes day for examination of the tariff issued by the railroads supposed to be in con formity with tne Jaw regulating rail road freight charges passed by the 22nd general assembly of Iowa. investigation snowed tnat, in almost every instance the tariff on luu.ber to given important points in Iowa from Chicago is much less than from -Miss issippi river manufacturing points to the same stations. To say that the manufacturers were astonished, would be putting it mild ly.

They were dismayed. They thought something was wrong with this new tariff, but never dreamed that it was so radically dead against their business. As it is, Chicago can come into Iowa with lumber, and shut Dubu que, Clinton, Davenport, Muscatine, Burlington and Fort Madison lumber out. The companies charge less for hauling lumber across the state of 111. and into Iowa than to the same points, from the Mississippi River.

The mat ter will be pushed to secure at least something like fair treatment. The new tariff is also creating kick ing as nara ate is classed yae same as 20 years ago when it is bow $0 to 80 per cent, chaaper. The freight often amounts to more than the market of the articles themselves. Important to Horse Breeders. The horse breeders of Goshen town ship are much pleased that Charles rnngey has secured his four noted stallions and excellent breeders.

1st. the noted Enirlisb Hackney, imnorted to this country in 1886. He is a rich bay, 16 hands IRQ, weigns l.iuu pounds. 2d, a splendid Bnglishshire, imported from Enrland in 1886. He is of a beautiful brown color and weio-bs 1.800 pounds.

4th, a beautiful Cleveland bay which is ad mired by all who are good judges of horses. He also has a fine maltese Kentucky jack, 8 years old. These animals can be found each day in the week, Sunday excepted, at his stables at Atalissa, where Mr. Pringey will be pleased to give an needed information. That Mr.

Pringey has made the low price of $15 for the season, is enough to inter est every breeder in the country. Come and see them. tf MUSCATINE COUS REGISTRY. Births Reported, Marriage Licenses Issued and Deaths Returned for May. 1888 BIUTHS.
